Mobilee is back-or perhaps we should say back to Back to Back-with the fourth installment of its compilation and DJ-mix series. mobilee’s Back to Back compilation series has evolved significantly since its inception, with the second disc of each compilation presenting a unique take on mobilee’s music. Back to Back Volume Four, compiled and performed by And.id and B.A.N.D., continues this evolution with a two-disc extravaganza that is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before.
INTERVIEW :: GummiHz on Electronique.it Electronique :: Publishing Date: 11.09 So, what does GummiHz mean? And why this H in capital letter? Gummi stands for “elastic” in German and Hz is the unit for measuring frequencies (that’s why H is in capital). Put it together and it stands for elastic frequencies.
"Sleepless Nights" sounds different from what heard from you before on Mobilee: more personal, more melodic and with more pathos. Can we consider the album as a change in your musical direction? I wouldn’t say it’s a change in my musical direction, as I am always trying to produce whichever style of dance music I feel like making. I would say it’s a broader introduction to the spectrum of musical genres that I want to cover with my music.
GummiHz steps up and a definitive rework of the classic “Can’t Stop Not”. It is punchy minimal deep Techno edge is destined to please both Techno and House heads alike.
The Sleepless Nights Double 12“ and digital album is GummiHz’ first release on mobilee since Under the Sun and is a radical departure from anything we’ve ever heard from GummiHz—or even mobilee—before. GummiHz’ multidimensional production abilities allow him to dig deep into his roots and influences on the one hand while simultaneously exploring new, uncharted territory on the other.
EXCERPT FROM 5 QUESTIONS WITH GUMMIHZ (MOBILEE'S NEWSLETTER)
This is the second time you have worked with a vocalist for your tracks on mobilee. Can you tell us a bit about the incredible voices of Emena and Malena? It was one of my aims to have a couple of songs with vocals, each one in a different direction. So I spent some time looking for singers and met up with Malena Perez. Malena is a very sweet person and a creative singer. She has worked with a few producers on different musical styles and it was very exciting to see how experienced she is in using her voice as an instrument. It didn\'t take us a long time to record the right voice, as she is very professional in her art. Emena is an alter ego I am using for the first time in a track, quite a sensitive guy I must say! (laughs) I had initially recorded the vocal myself as a draft for a singer to listen to and work on, but I ended keeping it instead. The emotion in the voice is strong and it\'s under heavy "make up". It really captures the right feeling for the song. Did you write the lyrics by yourself? 'Love Call' tells a story that everyone who has been in a relationship before knows about - how much autobiographical truth is there in these lyrics and if they are very personal to you, is it strange to see how people react to them?
Yes, I remember recording the vocal first and then playing it over to write down the lyrics so I could remember them. It was during a sensitive period in my life when I was quite charged emotionally and really needed to release this energy through a song. I am interested to see if people can connect with the song. Can you understand what "Love Call" is about?! (laughs)
Joel Mull: “WOW!!! What a great album. Big Fan of GummiHZ!! Love the way the storys gets told in the arrangements. Thank you for the music. And keep on Pushing” Joris Voorn: “Great groovy and sometimes deep house music!” Kiki: "love call", "Sleepless nights" & "One groove + synth" are my faves. the beginning and the end” Giles Smith (secretsundaze): “Quite liking "One Groove and Synth" with its old school Tenagliaesque feel.” Konrad Black: “Really nice release....warm sounding. Great vocal production too. Full support.”
